admit it, but autumn is definitely in the air. With the cool morning air that
sends us around the house to find a light sweater that comes out at noon when
the temperature warms up again, we know that summer releases its warmth day
after day.
We promise that we will only
try to help! With the fall coming, we have a few tips to prepare you for the
season and prepare your home so you don't have to worry about falling into the

Prepare Your Oven for the Approaching Winter
I know... we just jumped from fall to winter. That sigh is
now a moan we hear! But listen, this is the perfect time to check your oven and
replace the filter before the temperature drops, so you have to turn on the
heating. If it's been a while, call a professional to make sure everything runs
smoothly and get a service. After all, you don't want to wait until it's really
cold, do you?
Clean Your Fireplace and Chimney
What could be nicer than cozy by the fireplace with a hot
cup of tea or hot chocolate in the fall? There is just something so magical
about those longer nights! If you have a fireplace, prepare it before the
temperature drop brings you into a frenzy! Clean the fireplace, inspect the
flue and ensure that all doors and screens are working properly. The Ontario
Fire Code requires that a chimney be inspected at least annually and that it is
cleaned regularly to prevent accumulation of creosote. This is especially
important if you use your fireplace or wood-burning stove once or twice a week
in the winter.
Check Windows and Doors for any Cracks and Openings
Making sure you are warm in your modest stay is the key to a
Canadian fall and winter. Inspect your windows and doors for cracks and
openings through which hot air can escape and cold air can enter your home. If
you find something, seal it with some seal. If you do this in advance, you
maximize the comfort of you and your family during the coming season.
Clean Your Windows
With the sunny blue sky and relatively comfortable
temperatures in the summer, there were enough days that you had left your
windows open to let in that fresh air. You would probably have detected dust
and debris in your window frames and sliding door tracks as well as any blinds
or shutters. Before the temperature drops, grab some soap and microfiber cloths
and wash your windows. Make sure you get to all corners and holes where dust
would have collected. Wipe down all blinds and shutters to get rid of dust and
debris. You will probably keep your windows closed during the seasons, so you
will want to do this early to help keep air and allergen free in your home. Do
you find this task too annoying? Call us and add it to your next Maid cleaning
service in T.O!
Perform a Home Safety Check
Safety first! A good rule of thumb when remembering to
replace the batteries in your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide monitors is to
replace them when the clock goes back or forward in time. Now that summer time
is approaching, mark your diary to replace those batteries with the change.
3 Tips for Cleaning Your Walls
If you own or rent a house, apartment or even a room, you
know that over time, walls can collect all kinds of stains, dust and dirt!
Cleaning walls can be a daunting task, but you will be surprised how much
clearer and cleaner your place can look.
Here are Some Cleaning Tips to Help You Make Your House Look as Good as New!
Cover Your Furniture
Use temporary coverings such as newspapers, towels, old
sheets or groundsheets from the painter, cover everything of value as this
prevents possible spillage of water or cleaning solution from ruining the
carpet or furniture. The last thing you want is to damage part of the house
when you try to clean another!
Move Furniture
You want to be able to get dust built up behind dressers,
appliances and other types of furniture. You can clean these often neglected
areas now that the furniture is out of the way.
Prepare Your Walls for Washing
Decide before cleaning what kind of paint is on the wall.
Semi-glossy or enamelled paint is resistant to washing. Flat, stain or eggshell
finishes are not that durable and can rub off if you scrub too hard or use an
abrasive. No matter what type of paint you have on your walls, make sure you
dust them before washing! Place the brush head on your vacuum cleaner and run
it over the walls to remove surface dust and dirt.
